LSA Slurry Pumps
Click on any number in the cutaway to find out more about the feature and its benefits.

LSA slurry pumps are designed for severe duties with operating flows from 100 gallons per minute (20 cubic meters per hour) to more than 60,000 gallons per minute (14.000 cubic meters per hour).

These high-performance, low-maintenance slurry pumps are applied primarily in ore transport, mill discharge, cyclone feed, tailings and plant process. The LSA can also be found in environmental cleanup, dewatering (low head type), pulp and paper (liquor transfer), food processing (sugar and sugar beets), coke and resin pumping and ash handling.

Total dynamic head is to 300 feet (91 meters) per stage and discharge diameters are from two to 26 inches (50 millimeters to 660 millimeters). Power rating is up to 4,000 horsepower (3.000 kilowatts).

The LSA offers all-metal pumps with proven, long-wearing designs. The LSA's modular design affords a high degree of interchangeability between metal and elastomer wear parts and mechanical components. This interchangeability simplifies your maintenance programs and allows you to vary operating conditions at minimal cost.

Purchase Fewer Wear Parts
The LSA slurry pump wet end features only three main wear parts: the shell with built-in hub-side liner; the impeller; and the suction-side plate liner. WET END features a removable suction liner for ease of maintenance.

Materials
Wear parts are manufactured of our Gasite® WD28G white-iron alloy. Gasite white-iron castings are stress relieved and heat treated for optimum properties.

Other speciality white irons are available. These include: Gasite 4G, an abrasion-resistant, nickel-chromium white iron; Gasite 27G, an abrasion-resistant, high-chromium white iron; Gasite WD29G for handling large rocks; and Gasite 38G for extremely abrasive, low stress conditions. Polyurethane and other elastomers are also available.

Polyurethane is a two-part elastomer resin that has higher hardness and strength than most rubbers. It is the standard material for LSA elastomer-lined impellers. Polyurethane exhibits excellent resistance to fine particle abrasion and good chemical resistance.

Reduce and Simplify Maintenance and Maximize Wear Life
The features built into LSA Series slurry pumps reduce maintenance costs. For example, the cast ring on the hub side of the shell fits into a RABBET GROOVE on the pedestal. It supports the weight of the shell and provides automatic alignment. It also allows the shell to be installed in any discharge position of 45 degree increments.

SPRING RETAINER RING holds the thrust bearing preload springs and prevents housing wear.

RADIAL BEARINGS are a heavy-duty, self-aligning, double-row, spherical roller-type design.

HEAVY-CAST, SPLIT-CARTRIDGE BEARING ASSEMBLY offers ease of inspection and maintenance.

Accurate impeller clearance adjustments are easily made with the ADJUSTING SCREW.

SHELLS are computer designed to optimize wear and efficiency.

IMPELLER is designed for wear-resistant operation in highly abrasive slurries using GIW's flow simulation computer program. Its twisted-vane design provides you with highly efficient passage of large solids, superior suction performance and excellent wear resistance.

SUCTION LINER with straightening vanes can be rotated at intervals to increase wear life. Straightening vanes reduce wear due to pre-rotation.

TWO ARAMID GASKETS aid in the removal of impeller. These gaskets prevent galling between the impeller and shaft sleeve for easy removal.

Seal Areas
GIW uses two designs for stuffing box assemblies. Our standard design is a Forward-Flush Design for severe applications where maximum flush of the shaft sleeve is required. The minimum dilution design is a restricted Low-Flow Design recommended for applications where available seal water is limited or where dilution of the slurry presents problems. For both designs, seal water should be furnished at 10 psi above the discharge pressure.

Mechanical seals, which require special selection, operation and maintenance are available as an option.

REPLACEABLE STUFFING BOX WEAR PLATE is provided in the area subjected to slurry wear.

SHAFT SLEEVE has a fused carbide coating, which results in extended sleeve and packing life.

SHAFT is AISI 4150 steel and is straight cut with no tapers. Multiple material options are available.

LABYRINTH SEALS protect bearings.

Oil and Temperature Gauges
SIGHT GLASS AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE allow monitoring of bearing assembly oil level and temperature.

Temperature Limits
Normal temperature limit is 150° F (65° C). Consult your GIW representative for materials and configurations for temperatures above 150° F (65° C) and up to 250° F (120° C).

Operating Limits

Capacities (Q max.) 100 - 60,000 gpm 20 - 14,000 m3/h
Heads (H max.) 300 ft. 90 m

Motor Mount Arrangements
GIW pumps with overhead motor mount arrangements do not require a separate base plate. The pump pedestal can be bolted directly to a concrete foundation with the motor mounted on the pump's motor mounting structure. GIW pumps with side motors do not require a subbase: the pump and motor with slide rails can be mounted to concrete foundation. Some field installation and alignment of the motor and drive are required after installation of the pump.

Testing
Our performance curves are based on actual, full-size running tests on clear water. We guarantee our pump performance according to the Hydraulic Institute standards.

Hydrostatic tests can be carried out on all pumps at no additional charge in accordance with GIW ISO 9001 procedure 10.0001.01.00. These are performed at 1-1/2 times the operating pressure or 125 psi, whichever is greater.
